The Daily Telegraph reported today that Red China has offered to send “volunteer” troops and “all the arms you want” to Palestinian guerrillas fighting Israel. According to Eric Downton, writing from Beirut, the offer is being made by Chinese Communist diplomats in Arab capitals.
But the guerrillas so far have rejected the offers because they have all the arms and money they can handle and because their principal backers among Arab leftist rulers are beholden to Moscow for huge amounts of military and economic aid, Mr. Downton said. In addition, the guerrilla organizations are inhibited from accepting the Chinese offer because they get most of their money from the traditionalist, anti-Communist Arab states.
