Advices today from the Rumanian port of Salina, at the mouth of the Danube, reported a virtual reign of terror conducted by the anti-Semitic Cuzist blueshirts who have taken control of the town.
Attacks on political opponents and firing of democratically inclined, newspaper plants, accounts from Salina said, were rife. The Cuzists were also interfering with telephone communications.
Despite the Tatarescu Cabinet’s ban against political demonstrations, the uniformed storm-troopers were parading through the town, performing military manoeuvres. German ships passing the port were given the Hitler salute.
