Former Defense Minister Moshe Dayan has declared that Israel should seek simultaneous agreements with Egypt, Syria and the Soviet Union or remain in her present position. Speaking at Kibbutz Givat Haim Friday night, Dayan said Secretary of State Henry A, Kissinger’s step-by-step approach will not bring a solution since it is only a withdrawal followed by a temporary cooling-off period.
Repeating his opposition to the interim agreement, Dayan, who is still a Labor MK, said even if the agreement is reached with Egypt, Syria will not sit by idly and the Soviet Union will continue to meddle in the region.
He said that if the Arab states are not ready to sign a peace agreement with Israel then Israel should strive for a non-belligerence accord. For this, Dayan said, he would be willing to give up half the Sinai and some areas of the Golan Heights. He said there was no difference between withdrawing from the Abu Rodeis oilfields or from a settled area on the Golan Heights if that meant peace.
The former Defense Minister also criticized what he called a lack of Zionist activity in Israel. He called for programs to advance Zionism, for an economic plan to attract Jewish investment and for increased aliya.
