Mr. Hyman Liberman, three times Mayor of Cape Town (in 1904, 1906 and 1907) has died here. Mr. Liberman came to South Africa as a boy from Birmingham and became one of the leading citizens of Cape Town. The funeral took place on June 24th at Maitland Cemetery, the service being conducted by the Rev. A. P. Bender. There was a great crowd at the cemetery, including the present Mayor, Mr. R. J. Verster, and three former Mayors, Sir. H. Hands, Sir Frederick Smith and Mr. W. Duncan Baxer, many City Councillors, representatives of the Cape Hospital Board, the Cape Chamber of Commerce, the Cape Town Hebrew Congregation, variously friendly societies, the Cape Jewish Orphanage, and the Zionist Organization. A memorial service was held the following day at the Great Synagogue.
