Dr. Samuel Elsberg, a prominent Jewish cultural leader here has died at the age of 59. He was a former President of the American O.R.T., President of the Shalom Aleichem Institute, President of the Yiddish Cultural Society and an ardent worker for many Jewish cultural institutions. He was born in Moscow and came to America as a youth. He studied medicine and set up as a physician but devoted much of his time to building up the Yiddish school movement in America. He was the closest friend of Dr. Chaim Zhitlovsky, the leader of the Yiddish cultural movement.
