Dr. Nahum Goldmann, president of the World Jewish Congress, visited the Soviet Ambassador to Paris in connection with the invitation of Moscow Chief Rabbi Solomon Schleifer to the WJC to send a delegation to the USSR it was learned here today.

It is understood that Dr. Goldmann told the Soviet diplomat that he would head the delegation if he could obtain assurances that it would be given an opportunity for a real conference with the Jewish community and for making proper contacts with both the community and the Soviet Government. It is planned that the delegation will visit the USSR during the High Holidays.

French Foreign Minister Christian Pineau summoned Israel Ambassador Yacov Tsur to the Quai d’Orsay yesterday and gave him a report on conversations he had had with Moscow leaders on the Middle East situation. The conversation lasted 45 minutes.

Mr. Pineau also informed Mr. Tsur of what he intended to say to Secretary of State Dulles during his forthcoming visit to Washington. When Mr. Tsur left the Quai d’Orsay he said that he was “quite optimistic and convinced of the good will of France on the important question of armaments.”
