Dr. Sigismund Schulz Goldwater, one of the most widely known hospital consultants in the United States, was named yesterday by Mayor-elect Fiorello H. LaGuardia as Commissioner of the Department of Hospitals.
The new Commissioner was born in New York City sixty years ago and studied at Columbia University. He received his medical training at Bellevue and in 1925 received the degree of doctor of science at Marquette College. He has been superintendent and director at Mt. Sinai Hospital and was Commissioner of Health between 1914 and 1918. For many years he has been municipal expert in hospital construction and administration.
