Abba Eban, Israel’s Foreign Minister, left today for the United States where he will discuss, among other matters, a suggestion for installation of radar and highly-sensitive acoustic devices to safeguard Israel’s borders against guerrilla infiltration.
Mr. Eban said the proposal had not been made formally by any United States source to Israel but that Israel was ready to discuss any suggestion to increase security on its borders while the sovereignty of the state was safeguarded. Officials in Washington had been cited, without attribution, as believing such electronic devices might help to end border incursions and the threat of Israel reprisals.
Mr. Eban will meet with United Nations Secretary General U Thant; Arthur J. Goldberg, the American Ambassador to the United Nations; and Deputy Secretary of State Nicholas Katzenbach. In New York, Mr. Eban will speak at the annual conference of the United Jewish Appeal this weekend. In Pittsburgh he will speak at the Israel Bond drive. On his return next Wednesday via Paris, he will meet with Maurice Couve de Murville, the French Foreign Minister.
