Israeli Foreign Minister Abba Eban disclosed today that he received a telephone call from Israel reporting that the first day of the Arab attack “Frog” missiles rained down on Israeli settlements in the north of Israel. Speaking at a press conference at the Israeli Consulate, he said Israeli losses were “tragically heavy” in proportion to its population but that morale in Israel is high and that the shock of the first day of war has been absorbed. Eban refused to respond to a question that American pilots have volunteered to fight for Israel. He also expressed “no comment” when asked if Israel had received 30 Phantom jets from the U.S. since the war broke out. Eban said the U.S. policy in regard to military supplies for Israel “has not changed.”
