Education Minister Zevulun Hammer urged students and university heads alike to work together toward easing the present tension between Arab and Jewish students. Hammer spoke Wednesday in the Knesset in reply to six motions on the agenda dealing with the recent tension in Israel’s universities. Now, more than ever, he said, it is necessary to maintain intellectual open-mindedness, patience and tolerance toward differing views. However, Hammer said, there were exceptions to this: those who call for the destruction of the State, those who justify its enemies, and urge support for their campaign against Israel Hammer said that as far as he knew there were only a few Arab students who identified with these views.
