Eight Rumanian war criminals charged with wartime cruelties against Jews have been found guilty and sentonced to varying terms of imprisonment, it was reported here.
Seven defendants from the town of Parinceau–including the mayor, deputy mayor and schoolmaster–were sentenced to prison terms renging from five to 15 years. They were found guilty of "unleashing a savage persecution against the peaceful Jewish population of their town, arresting men, women and elderly persons and submitting them to the most inhuman tortures and robbing their victims of all their valuables."
Ion Sabaus, a former officer in the police force here, was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment and loss of civil rights after he was found guilty of the "savage killing of Jews." Sabaus commanded a unit which he ordered to murder a group of survivors of the Jassy massacre who were on route to Poland in June, 1941.
