General of the Army Dwight D. Eisenhower, president of Columbia University, launched the $20,000,000 maintenance campaign of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York, at services tonight at Temple Emanu-El here. More than 2,500 volunteer campaign workers and Federation supporters pledged support to the 1950 appeal, Simon H. Fabian, campaign chairman for October, announced.
The campaign, largest fund-raising effort ever undertaken for the maintenance needs of a local voluntarily supported network of hospitals, health and welfare agencies, will provide the funds for the annual operation of the Federation’s 116 affiliated hospitals and social services, which each year serve 480,000 men, women and children.
