On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of Lithuanian Independence, recognition was given Elihu D. Stone for his service in the cause of Lithuanian Independence twenty years ago. At a dinner in his honor tonight at the Hotel Kenmore, he was decorated with the Gediminas Grand Duke of Lithuania commander Degree by Jonas Budrys, the Consul-General of Lithuania in New York. The award was sent by President Anthonas Smetonas to the Consul-General.
All elements of New England Jewry were represented at the dinner, as well as prominent Lithuanian leaders. As a member of the Massachusetts Legislature in 1919, Mr. Stone introduced a resolution in favor of Lithuanian independence, which was adopted by the House and Senate. He also aided the Kaunas Lithuanian Delegation to the United States in 1920, contributing to the official recognition by the United States of the sovereignty of the Republic of Lithuania.
