An appeal to the Jews of America to mobilize the largest possible resources for the preservation of the Jewish position in Palestine and for the utilization of further immigration and colonization opportunities was cabled from London by Dr. Chaim Weizmann, president of the Jewish Agency, it was disclosed at a meeting of the Administrative Committee of the United Palestine Appeal called to consider measures for maximum cooperation with the Yishuv and the Jewish Agency in the immediate emergency and in the months to come.

Cablegrams from Dr. Weizmann and Eliezer Kaplan, treasurer of the Jewish Agency, emphasized (1) the impact of the European war was having immediate consequences in Palestine which would require the speedy mobilization of the largest financial resources, (2) the flow of immigration from Europe was continuing and could be enlarged, inasmuch as the German Government had not halted this program, and the Palestine Government was not interposing obstacles to the entry of Jewish refugees and (3) the income of the national funds was being out off in many countries due to the war and a greater measure of responsibility than ever before rested upon the Jews of America.

In the period from Jan. 1 to Sept. 18, over $3,000,000 was made available in cash for Palestine through the U.P.A. campaign, Chairman Abba Hillel Silver reported. It was pointed out that this is the largest sum ever forwarded to Palestine in a similar period in the whole history of fund-raising in the United States on behalf of the Palestine Foundation Fund and the Jewish National Fund.
