The Baltimore Museum of Art today came into possession of one of the original bronze casts of Rodin’s “The Thinker” (Le Penseur). The gift of Jacob Epstein, a member of the Baltimore Art Commission and art collector, the bronze has been installed at the foot of the steps leading to the museum entrance.
Mayor William F. Broening, who was present at the ceremonies today, expressed the city’s appreciation of the gift. “I hope this gift,” he said, “will arouse in other Baltimoreans a spirit similar to that which burns within Mr. Epstein’s breast and that they will give of their art wealth.”
The bronze is valued at $20,000.
