How hundreds of thousands of Jews were deported from Hungary by the Germans to build underground factories in Germany as slave laborers as described today by Thomas Dodd, American associate prosecutor, who read to the court a statement by Albert Speer one of the twenty Nazi leaders on trial here before the International War Crimes Tribunal.
Speer denied that he personally was responsible for this mass-expulsion of Jews, many of whom died from torture and starvation. An order issued in March 1943 by a Major Christiansen, commander of Nazi Elite troops on the Eastern front instructing that Hungarian Jews be shot was also introduced.
Dodd also produced documents revealing an agreement between the Gestapo and the German Ministry of Justice providing that Jews taken into so called “protective custody” were not to be judged by ordinary courts, but were to be dealt with by the Gestapo.
