The existence of the Jewish Party or any other Jewish political group is no longer warranted since Jews in Rumania can now join any political party they desire, Prof. Nicolas Constantinescu, Rumanian Propaganda Minister, declared today in a statement to the influential daily, Rumania Libera.
The statement was made in reply to a question as to whether a Jewish problem still exists in Rumania. The Minister pointed out that for “old, honest democrats in Rumania there never existed a Jewish problem, but only an anti-Semitic problem and a Zionist problem, since they never considered the Jews as being apart from the general population.”
The Minister urged the Jews of Rumania “to purge reactionary, chauvinistic elements from the bosom of Jewry.” He said that the difficulties which the Jews in Rumania are now facing are the results of the anti-Jewish measures taken by former pro-Nazi regimes. “These measures threatened the very existence of the Jewish population which lost hundreds of thousands of its sons,” he declared, adding that at present the problems faced by Jews are being solved in the same manner as those faced by all other sections of the population.
