Every one of the 91 institutions maintained by the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies including the administration headquarters will be closed for Rosh Hashonah, and those institutions which are residential will have appropriate celebrations. Many of Federation’s institutions have synagogues in their own buildings and in all of these services will be held tonight and morning and evening of the next two days.
A special dinner will be held at the Home for the Aged and Inform at 105th Street and Columbus Avenue, supported by Federation, after which the 300 old men and women living there will attend services in their synagogue.
At the Hebrew Orphan Asylum, maintained by Federation at 138th St. and Amsterdam Ave., services for Rosh Hashonnah will be conducted for the resident children and for the alumni who have made it a tradition to return to their old home to celebrate the New Year. The shofar will be blown by one of the children of the orphanage band.
Services will also be held at the Downtown Talmud Torah, 394 E. Hou ston Street, one of the largest religious institutions in the city maintained by Federation, at the Beth-El Sisterhood at 329 E. 62nd St. The Hebrew Sheltering Guardian Society at Pleasantville will also hold services for the orphan wards of Federation living there.
