A fire of undetermined origin, which was brought under control only after six hours, gutted the library of the Jewish Theological Seminary here today, and damaged three floors of the Seminary’s main building. Seminary officials said, however, that the institution’s collection of rare books and manuscripts were not affected, having been kept in vaults in another part of the building. However, other valuable books were lost. Other damage was due mainly to flooding by water poured into the structure by firemen.
