Sheikh Taher Tabari was today appointed magistrate for the Nazareth district by Israel authorities. This is the first appointment of its kind since the Jewish state was established.
Several Arab marauders were wounded today in an exchange of fire between them and Israel border guards in the Negev. One of them was captured. The Arabs infiltrated into Israel territory but were spotted near one of the Jewish settlements. All of them, including the wounded, retreated into Arab territory after the clash.
Israel police units yesterday cordoned off the Arab quarter of Haifa and searched it for infiltrees from surrounding Arab states. During the search every Arab was requested to produce his Israel identification card and those who could not were arrested. A number of Israel Arab political leaders, including Toufik Tubi, Arab Communist deputy in the Parliment, observed the operation.
