The Soncino Press has published the third set of eight volumes of its unabridged English translation of the Talmud. In the 24 volumes already published, this undertaking is now three-quarters fulfilled, and the fourth set of eight volumes, which is now in course of preparation, will bring the task to an end.
The third set, or “Order,” is called Mo’ed and deals with the “appointed seasons,” the feasts and fasts and holy days of the calendar. The Soncino Talmud, edited by Rabbi Dr. I. Epstein, is the first complete and unabridged translation ever undertaken in English. A group of some thirty scholars, drawn from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Bradford, Middlesborough, Belfast, Southport, as well as from America, Australia and Palestine have collaborated in this work. The text is copiously annotated and each volume is provided with glossaries and indices. Introductions, both general and particular, give the essence of the various orders and tractates. Each set of eight volumes is preceded by a foreword by Chief Rabbi J.H. Hertz.
