The growing fish industry in Palestine provided 18,000 work days in 1940 and yielded 17 percent of the 3,500 tons of fish consumed by the population during the year, it was announced today. Colonies combining fishing with agriculture are increasing, giving promise of a bright future and employment of thousands of persons.
This correspondent, who has just completed a tour of Jewish fisheries throughout the country, including inauguration of fish ponds at Genossar, near Tiberias, found experts sent out by the Jewish Agency’s Maritime Department training a large number of fishermen. The Agency has invested L15,000 in fishing equipment.
