The Foreign Office disclosed today that Sir Hugh Dow, a 62-year-old former civil servant in India, has been selected as British Minister to Palestine, effective after the termination of the Mandate.
Dow, who was formerly governor of the native states of Sind and Bihar in India, will not be accredited to any government in Palestine but will merely act as “a Foreign Office observer,” the announcement said. Asked whether a British representative will be accredited to the Jewish state, a Foreign Off ice spokesman replied the matte would be considered–if and when a state is proclaimed.
