Former Prime Minister Shimon Peres, Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat and World Bank president James Wolfensohn announced the creation of a $50 million fund to promote joint Israeli-Palestinian high-tech ventures in the self-rule areas. Speaking at a ceremony in Bethlehem, Peres said that regardless of the status of peace negotiations, steps must be made to ensure the futures of Israeli and Palestinian children.
