Prof. N. B. Amzalak, president of the Jewish Community of Lisbon, and vice-rector of the Technical University of Lisbon, has been made Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Bordeaux, in recognition of a lecture which he delivered here on present-day economic conditions in Portugal.
Prof. Amzalak is one of the leading national economists in Portugal. He is also Doctor Honoris Causa of Strasbourg University. He is an authority on Jewish economic conditions and has written a number of works on the history of the Sephardic Jews and on famous men in Sephardic Jewry, as well as bibliographies of writings in Judeo-Spanish and Judeo-Portugese.
