A French war crimes court here today sentenced Elisaboth Beregy to 13 months’ imprisonment and forbade her to reenter France for 20 years for extorting money from Jews while acting as an agent for the German police during the Nazi occupation of France.
Miss Beregy, a Czochoslovak citizen, extorted over 1,000,000 frances from Mussua Gelbtrank and Miss Quagliano on the promise that she would procure certificates describing them as Aryans. She also led a German raiding party to Savigny-on-Orge where Miss Quagliano owned three villas. The villas were looted by the Gormans.
Miss Beregy had been sentenced in absentia to 20 years at hard labor in July, 1949. Shortly aftorwards she was arrested and retried.
