Marc Yarblum, head of the Federation of Jewish Organizations in France, said today at a press conference in the offices of the JDC that 10,000 visas for Polish Jews have been given by the French government to a newly formed Council of Jewish Organizations. This Council, which is a merger of all the Jewish organizations in France, has been set up as the sole representative body for negotiating with the government regarding visas.
Mr. Yarblum said that he was shocked and surprised to see that certain Jewish organizations in the United States are not only claiming credit for securing the visas, but are also charging American relatives from $250 to $300 for each entry certificate. These false claims and more particularly the unwarranted fees, Mr. Yarblum stated, “may jeopardize the entire project because the French Government will not tolerate Jews seeking money from other Jews for visas which it grants without charge.”
