French justice is proceeding against Francois Coty, anti-Semitic leader, for participating in frauds infringing the company laws, the conservative journal, “La Liberte,” reports.
“L’Ami du Peuple,” Coty’s organ, retorts today by accusing “La Liberte” of receiving subsidies from Moscow “for helping to bring about the acquittal of the Bolshevist murderer, Schwartzbard.”
The Schwartzbard referred to by the anti-Semitic organ, is Sholom Schwartzbard, who killed General Semion Petlura, responsible for the bloody pogroms in the Ukraine.
Schwartzbard, a Jewish watchmaker, who had lived through the horror of the Petlura pogroms in the Ukraine, shot and killed Petlura on May 25, 1925, when the latter was leaving a Paris restaurant.
At Schwartzbard’s trial, which opened in October of 1927, Alexander Shulgin, former Minister of Foreign Affairs in Petlura’s cabinet, sought to prove and failed that Schwartzbard was a Communist and killed Petlura on instructions from the Soviet government in Moscow.
Schwartzbard was acquited by verdict of the jury on October 26th, after eight months spent in prison.
