A sentence of 20 years at hard labor was imposed here today by a French military court upon a German officer, Lieutenant Joseph Fitz, who was in charge of the recruiting office for slave labor for Germany during the Nazi occupation of France.
The German lieutenant was charged with using excessive brutality against Jews rounded up by his soldiers for shipment to Germany. Many of the Jews died as a result of the brutalities suffered in a camp in France where they were held prior to being sent to Germany, it was established at the trial.
