French President Jacques Chirac overreacted to Ariel Sharon’s call on French Jews to make aliyah, Malcolm Hoenlein said. “I think perhaps Mr. Chirac is attempting to divert attention from their failure to address the anti-Semitism, to apprehend those responsible” for attacks on Jews, the executive vice chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations told The Associated Press.
