(Jewish Telegraphic Agency)
An editorial which blames the British officials in Jerusalem who, opposing at heart the Balfour Declaration, thereby assist in the creation of conflicts and misunderstandings is contained in the “Journal de Geneva,” a Geneva publication which is said to be influential in League Circles.
Concerning the status quo of the Wailing Wall, the paper declares that if this means that the British administration will be compelled to continue Turkish misuse, then the Jews are right in saying that the change in administration was not worth while. The status quo can, however, be understood liberally according to the spirit of the Mandate the paper continues. The fact of Arab ownership cannot overbalance the Jewish moral claims to the Wall. “We hope that the Mandates Commission will express regret over the incident and see that such things are not repeated,” the “Journal de Geneva” declares.
