German authorities preparing to try two former leaders of the Nazi security forces, held responsible for the deportation of 200,000 Jews from Loda to death camps in Poland, requested today that any witnesses against the Nazis volunteer their information to help prosecute the war criminals, according to an announcement by the World Jewish Congress here today.
The Nazis awaiting trial are Otto Bradfisch, former commander of the Nazi security forces at Lodz, and his assistant, Guenther Fuchs. Bonn authorities notified the WJC that they have found difficulties in attempting to locate eyewitnesses to the atrocities directed by Bradfisch and Fuchs because the latter had done a “thorough job” of annihilating virtually all of Lodz’s former 200,000 Jews. Witnesses were asked to contact the headquarters of the World Jewish Congress in New York which, in turn, will forward the information to the West German prosecutor’s office.
