Germany renamed an army base after a soldier who was executed by the Nazis for saving hundreds of Jews from the Holocaust. Before being renamed for Sgt. Anton Schmid, the base had honored an army general, Gunther Rudel, who served in both world wars and had served as an “honorary judge” for the People’s Courts of the Third Reich.
