Dr. Gershon A. Churgin, a Hebrew scholar, died yesterday at the Mount Sinai Hospital after a short illness. He was 75 years old. A professor of Hebrew literature and Jewish philosophy at Yeshiva University in New York since 1939 until his retirement in 1972, Churgin graduated from the Teachers Institute in Jerusalem in 1923 and received a Doctor of Philosophy degree at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore in 1939. The Russian-born scholar also taught at the Herzlia Hebrew Teachers Institute in New York, Touro College and Vassar College. He was the author of “Horizons of Thought” and “Currents in Modern Philosophy.” Churgin also received a Bachelor of Arts degree at Columbia University in 1928 and a Master of Arts degree there in 1930.
