Mrs. Golda Meir, Israel’s Foreign Minister, is scheduled to deliver a major policy address to a plenary session of the General Assembly here on Tuesday. She will address the entire Assembly during the “general debate,” a procedural phase of the annual Assembly session, in which the topmost spokesmen for all delegations spell out their Government’s principal policies on most issues concerning them here.
In her address, Mrs. Meir was expected to indicate authoritatively Israel’s current, official thinking in regard to the touchy Arab refugee issue which is on the agenda of the current Assembly. Mrs. Meir has, thus far, restricted her contacts here to private conversations, conferring with a score of foreign ministers, including U. S. Secretary of State Dean Rusk.
Over the weekend, she was the hostess at a reception which was attended by many of the leading diplomats accredited here, including Adlai E. Stevenson, chief of the United States delegation, as well as leading members of the Soviet delegation. Among those attending the reception was Dr. Joseph E. Johnson, president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, who is the UN Palestine Conciliation Commission’s special representative for an effort to ease the Arab refugee problem.
