The Israeli diplomatic representative in Athens, Yehuda Gaulan, presented yesterday evening a Yad Vashem scroll of honor to Greek author Vassilios Krapsitis in recognition of his contribution to the rescue of Jews during the Nazi occupation of Greece. Krapsitis, at that time a fiscal employe in the northern Greek town of Jannina, was one of those who hid and extended help to the town’s 1,850 Jews–many of whom thus survived. During World War II more than 67,000 Jews were killed in Greece by the Nazis.
