The plehiscite which was to be held here Saturday to decide whether or not shops should be closed on Sunday has been postponed by the authorities until after the mayoralty elections have been held.

In the meantime compulsory Sunday observance will be enforced due to the government’s desire to retain the sympathies of both the supporters and the opponents of Sunday observance for the mayoral elections.

For the same reason, it is said, adherents of former Premier Vemzelos have attempted to negotiate with the Jewish voters, offering a certain number of seats to the Jews in exchange for their votes.
