The farewell performance of the Moscow Hebrew Theatre, Habima, was given Sunday night at the Century Theatre.
About $12,000 was raised to be distributed among the performers, who will sail for Europe within a week. The first act of “Jacob’s Dream” and the second act of “The Deluge” were played, and afterwards a concert was given.
Among the gusets was Martinez Sierra, who left the final performance of his Spanish Art Theatre at the Forrest to be present. Irving Rosenzweig was chairman of the committee which arranged the performance, and Joseph Barondess was master of ceremonies. Mr. Barondess introduced Nathan Straus, who spoke briefly from a box. Three thousand persons attended the performance.
Since leaving New York the Habima Theatre had played in Philadelphia, Chicago. Detroit and Cleveland. Nachum Zemach is founder and director.
