The fifth annual banquet of the Histadruth Ivrith, Hebraist organization which has for its purpose the promotion of the Hebrew language and literature, was held Sunday night at the Hotel Astor. Dr. Joseph Krimsky acted as toastmaster.
Over 125 prominent guests listened to the addresses of Dr. H. G. Enelow, rabbi of Temple Emanu-El, Professor Davidson, Israel Matz, Abraham Goldberg and Menachem Rybalow, editor of the “Hadoar.”
The speakers urged wider participation in the movement to promote the knowledge of the Hebrew language and literature in the United States.
The dinner also marked the fifth anniversary of the establishment of the “Hadoar,” the only Hebrew weekly in the United States. On this occasion a “Sefer Ha’shanah,” Hebrew annual, was issued by the Histadruth Ivrith. The annual was edited by Mr. Rybalow and contains many valuable contributions in the field of research and belles lettres.
A musical program was rendered, in which Madam Rovina of the Habima troupe and Cantor and Mrs. Jasinowsky participated.
