Herschel V. Johnson, deputy U.S. representative to the United Nations, was received by President Truman briefly today and later expressed the hope that the Palestine question would be resolved by May.
Johnson was the American representative on the Ad Hoc Committee on Palestine at last fall’s session of the General Assembly and was one of those largely responsible for working out the partition plan. He has been ill since December but told news-men today that he plans to return to his U.N. duties in May after a month’s leave at his home in North Carolina.
