Thirty-one graduates were awarded Hebrew teachers’ diplomas by the Herzliah Hebrew Teachers Institute at commencement exercises held here yesterday. This was the largest graduating class in the 43 years since the Institute was founded. In addition eight students were graduated from the Herzliah High School.
Guest speaker at the ceremony was Dr. Samuel M. Blumenfield, director of the Department of Education and Culture of the Jewish Agency for Israel. The Herzliah Institute was founded in 1921 by the He brew poet and scholar Moses Feinstein. Since its inception the institute has trained thousands of students from all parts of the United States, Europe and Israel.
Abraham Goodman presented the following awards to outstanding students: The I.J. Caplan Award in General Scholarship; The Mr. and Mrs. Mendel Haber Award in Literature; The Israel and Gussie Matz Memorial Book prizes; The Mr. and Mrs. David Morgenstern Award in Bible; The Daniel Persky Memorial Award in Grammar; The Mr. and Mrs. William Salzman Award in Talmud; and The Menachem Schlossberg Memorial Award in History.
