When informed today by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency’s representative that his mother was coming from Rovno to see him, Hinkis, the Jewish police constable sentenced to death for the murder of five Arabs, asked when she was expected. Red-robed, chained and handcuffed, Hinkis was conducted from his cell for a two-minute interview. He rejoiced at the news from his mother, but immediately remarked that her grief would be unbearable. He appeared greatly interested in the Jewish public’s reaction to his sentence and he also asked when his appeal was to be filed. He is not allowed papers or cigarettes.
