The charge that the Iraq government summoned leaders of the Bagdad Jewish Community and forced them to sign a statement declaring that they were satisfied with the Jewish position in Iraq and are opposed to the Zionist movement, as harmful to the Jews in the Middle-Eastern countries, was voiced here today by Berl Locker, Zionist leader, addressing the national conference of the Zionist leborities.
This was done prior to the departure of Abdul Ilah, Regent of Iraq, for the United States where he was received by President Truman, Mr. Locker emphasized. He added that not only must the Jews of Europe be rescued, but also the Jewish communitties in Arab lands.
The conference concluded today after adopting a resolution urging the British Government, together with other powers, to announce the establishment of Palestine as a Jewish State. Other resolutions demanded that the Jewish Agency be given the authority ot bring to Palestine as many settlers as possible and to develop the country’s resources, that Germany should pay reparations to the Jews and that the money should go for the development of Palestine, and that a policy of friendship and cooperation with the Arab world should be followed by the Jewish State, when established.
