Israel’s representations in Washington against sending arms to the Arab countries “had a salutary effect,” Ambassador Abba Eban of Israel declared at a press conference here yesterday.” Israel’s concern with this question has had influence upon the arms policy of the United States,” he said.
“However,” he continued, “in spite of this, we feel that we must maintain vigilance and alertness in explaining this question. The danger always arises when these questions are isolated: when the question is regarded as being merely a matter of Western strategy. But when we explain how it may affect Israel then more reason prevails. This issue is not yet at an end and remains urgent and we must continue to press it in all countries concerned,” Mr. Eban emphasized.
