Zalman Arrane, Israel’s Minister of Education, promised today increased government cooperation with the work of the World Hebrew Union which seeks to spread the study of the Hebrew language and literature in countries outside Israel, He spoke at a convention of the World Union.
The 50 delegates from 21 countries, who had previously asked the government and the World Zionist Organization for official recognition, cheered Mr. Arrane’s statement.
Afterwards, the delegates continued their discussion of a proposal to expand their activities to include publication and distribution of a basic 500-word Hebrew vocabulary and to add to the Hebrew lessons currently carried in 51 periodicals which are published in.” 10 different languages.
