The Israel Parliament, in a move designed primarily to fight increasing unemployment in the country, today began a debate on a measure to up the development budget–voted earlier this year–from 168,000,000 pounds to 196,000, 000 pounds.
The extra funds would be assigned to projects designed to provide work. The largest item in the proposed new budget is 60, 000, 000 pounds for agriculture; to be followed by 25,500,000 for transportation, 20,000, 000 for new housing; 12, 400,000 for trade; 9,500, 000 for exploitation of mines and quarries; 10, 000, 000 for increased production of electricity, 8,250,000 for new schools, hospitals and government buildings and 13, 900, 000 for public works to provide work for the jobless.
