Israel counted itself among the aircraft producing nations of the world as its first commercial airplane, a twin-engined turbo-prop passenger and cargo transport called the “Arain,” took off on its maiden flight at Lydda Airport. The plane is manufactured locally by Israel Aircraft Industries.
