Israel’s attorney general ordered police to open a criminal investigation into allegations President Ezer Weizman illegally accepted large sums of money from a French millionaire friend. Weizman has admitted receiving at least $200,000 from Edouard Saroussi when he served as a Knesset member and Cabinet minister between 1988 and 1993, but says he was under no legal obligation to report the gifts.
