A delegation of Jewish leaders today called upon Italian President Segni to offer the greetings of the Italian Jewish community on the occasion of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
The delegation, which included Rabbi Elib Toaff of Rome, Dr. Nissim, representing the Italian Rabbinical Council, and Professor Sergio Piperno, president of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities, presented President Segni with two Italian translations of the Bible–one several hundred years old and one modern one.
In responding to the greeting, President Segni stressed that he had always been a firm supporter of constitutional guarantees with respect to equality of all citizens without regard to religion, race or political creed.
