Itzik Manger, the well-known Yiddish poet, was awarded last night the $1,000 H. Leivick Prize by the Congress for Jewish Culture. Mr. Manger’s poetry has been published in Yiddish books and magazines and translated into numerous other languages since his first work in 1929. The prize was awarded on the occasion of the first anniversary of Leivick’s death.
